where does the good go

MixwitMixwit make a mixtapeMixwit mixtapes

Why did I not know about this?!!
I love it!! - it reminds me of countless hours spent listening to the radio, finger on 'record', waiting for my favourite song to play.
I nabbed this mixwit off daydream lily & am totally loving the first song by Lykke Li - check out the video clip here

Hope you all have a Merry christmas & happy new year...dance, dance, dance!! xx

(Oh no!...my mixwit find is going to be very short lived as the site is closing down...NOOO!)

the voice

"There is a voice inside of you
that whispers all day long,
'I feel that this is right for me,
I know that this is wrong.'
No teacher, preacher, parent, friend
or wiseman can decide
whats right for you - just listen to
the voice that speaks inside."

there'll be no eating off these

Almost to good to eat off... if these were mine they would take pride of place on one very lucky wall.
Plates are available here, & have also been seen at iko iko.

pictures in ink

Melbourne's Blink Design have some very cool new (?) products. The sustainably grown plywood wall plaques & magnets and quirky take on the cuckoo clock are my fav. As it the cute little purse - keep your hands off!

the day has finally arrived!

I see that the Brie Harrison site has finally launched (thanks for the heads up D*S) - Ive been waiting for this day for soooooooo many months.

love wins

Have I told you about the tension of opposites?" he says.
The tension of opposites?
"Life is a series of pulls back & forth. You want to do one thing, but you are bound to do something else. Something hurts you, yet you know it shouldn't. You take certain things for granted, even when you know you should never take anything for granted.
A tension of opposites, like a pull on a rubber band. And most of us live somwhere in the middle."
Sounds like a wrestling match, I say
"A wrestling match" he laughs "yes, you could describe life that way."
So, which side wins, I ask?
"Which side wins?"
He smiles at me, the crinkled eyes, the crooked teeth.
"Love wins. Love always wins."

out of the box

Yay! I picked up my Stafford Allpress box from seed gallery today...

I could wait to get home and open it up...

L.O.V.E

L.O.V.E love. What more needs to be said?

have you seam these?

I discovered these SEAM cushions by Sue McMillen while trawling the shops for christmas present (I haven't left my shopping to the last minute this year-yay!)
Using recycled wool blankets & silhouettes cut from vinyl, these cushions come in a wonderful array of colours & the price tag is pretty good too!
Although lost on pretty much every member of my family (I can picture their faces now) I would be over the moon if I found one under the tree...
SEAM cushions can be found at IkoIko in Auckland, & as far North as Matakana, all the way south to Dunedin.

wellytown

wellytown t-shirt

cut out windows with scissors, fabric dyed with red wine

windows filled with twink. dyed fabric.

paint the town red! stitched red thread

make me sparkle sequin

I can't resist this townscape by Wellytown artist Miriam Silvester & the products &  interaction/inspiration that is encouraged, & has come from, this simple line drawing as seen above.

"Wellytown is about Wellington & all the choice stuff that happens here. It's about our lil city that we as Wellingtonians, Welly-wannabes & Welly-appreciators are excited to be part of!

Now available in a range of t-shirts which also pioneer the concept of clothing you cant ruin. This literally invites you to alter, repair & personalise garments without restriction & is a novel way to give clothes you love a fresh lease on life!"

just good stuff

If you're in the Wellington area from the 17th - 21st December pop in to the Thistle Hall Gallery to get your hands on some 'good stuff'.
From $5 to$150, jewellery to furniture its a great chance to grab a few goodies by a bunch of talented peeps for christmas.
There is one small catch - its a cash only operation so make sure you bring your pennies :)

said in NZ

They have some interesting stuff over at trademe. Some of its pretty junky, but more often then not you find some goodies.
I thought these necklaces were worth a wee mention... although not entirely my cup of tea there is something slightly appealing, yet oh-so-tacky about this 'SomewhereOverTheRainbow' necklace.
To adorn yourself with some 'only in NZ' phrases, you can get 'SweetAs', 'YeahRight', and 'WannaPash' necklaces - haha, Pash. I love that word!!!

cork on the ocean

I have just been looking at the new clever bastards (over at clever bastards) & saw the Cork on the Ocean book by Mark & Rowan Sommerset - I love this book!! The story & illustrations are totally cool.
I do have one question though... can I buy this book, or at 26 am I too old??!!

'Somewhere between the blue and the green,
Further than far can be,
A little brown cork was riding the wind,

Cork on the Ocean follows the remarkable adventures of a little cork as it surfs the high seas. After riding a sea horse, evading a shark & befriending an exhausted butterfly, Cork meets a wise old whale who shares the secret of staying afloat.'
Bobbing along on the sea.

sweet things

Introducing Penny, Molly, Oma & Opa by Sweetpea Home  -  totally loving the playful take on cushions & the fact that they have named two of the cushions Oma & Opa - they remind me of my dutch grandparents  :)

a bit off centre

Karen Walkers beautiful west Auckland Art Deco home is featured in the latest issue of Inside Out - who knew Karen was a westie?!

Karen's home is described as having 'just the right amount of wrong' and is 'individualistic, rough around the edges & full of unexpected twists'.  This house sounds, & looks like a little gem; I definitely have a case of the green eyed monster :)

saben sale

I bought this little clutch at the Saben sale (which finishes today) - I fell in love with it straight away and just had to get it. The photo is a little bad, but the colours are beautiful - gold, cream, dusty pink & red ochre...its not often that I splash out on a bag, but this was well worth it.

Heres the addy if you have time to pop down this arvo -
52a Parau St (its in the small block of shops on the corner of Fearon Ave)

cat rabbit

Ive just discovered the fabulous, fun work (toys, prints & jewellery) of Cat Rabbit. This is a site to bookmark - with links to their etsy store - & their description makes me smile...

Cat Rabbit is a Hobart based artist who constantly creeps citizens out with her odd doll creations. Cat is often seen bleeding from the fingertips whilst looking at kittens in a pet store window.
